degrees. mostly sunny in miami 80. mostly sunny in chicago 51 degrees. dallas 84. . l.a. 70 degrees. >>> let's check your national forecast. the remnants of sandy are now in canada but expect scattered rain, snow showers and strong breezes in mid-atlantic and parts of virginia. rain and snow showers will linger in michigan and ohio. rest of the midwest remains dry. out west the storm brings inland bringing showers to the northwest. the southwest stays dry. here in new york a crane that snapped from sandy's high winds continuing to dangle more than 70 stories up. it is right down the street from this building. john miller spoke with two city engineers who took on the draws task of making sure the crane doesn't fall to the street below. >> reporter: during the storm that snapped the boom off the crane with winds gusting through and swinging the hanging boom back and forth two new york city building department engineers had to get to the top of the building and answer the question would the boom hold or come crashing down? for most of the long climb the only way up was the stairs. >> i

from springfield to the dallas access road. howard is going o to tell us what kind of winter he thinks we're going to have. >> not yet. on tuesday, i'm working on it. we may be able to use that a little bit this season. we have a whole staff of people working on it with me as well so stay tuned coming early next week. >>> weather wise it's cool today without the wind. really light winds, 45, 50 degrees. it's not uncomfortable really when you're out there. here's a look at the day planner. not much sunshine today. maybe a little bit later on this afternoon but these clouds have been hanging tough. i would call it partly to mostly cloudy, a light north and northeast winds at 5 miles per hour with temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s for highs. not too much more than where we are right now. you'll notice this evening we're falling back into the middle 40s with northeast winds at generally 3 to 4 miles per hour. partly cloudy to mostly cloudy overnight back in the 30s. satellite and radar, there's no rain falling but look at the clouds, they're hanging tough. we're seeing the back edg

at all the warmth and the central and southern plains. dallas today 88 degrees going to be warmer than phoenix. they're dealing with some november warmth. the storm systems moving across the country. one in the northern mains and another one -- plains and another one in the gulf of alaska. this up here in eastern canada? that's what's left of sandy and as this big, big storm still bringing them the cool air for us. and keeping things unsettled around the great lakes and here through the central appalachians. where some of the snow totals were incredible. in fact they opened the ski area down in north carolina from that and outside of gatlinburg about five miles away southeast they had 34- inches of snow in the mountains of tennessee. we'll watch the futurecast i don't know if you saw how quickly that disturbance got out of here. we should finish the day with more sunshine and start the day with mostly cloudy skies. generally clear tonight and saturday looks like we'll have a good deal of sunshine. so i think for the weekend, sky conditions will be fine. it's just temperatures a little

weather on the way. want you to look at texas' highs today. 82 in dallas. 79 houston. even oklahoma city 80. this warmth will be moving to the north and the east over the next couple of days while the cold you see here? and this is going to be warm in great falls they may not get out of the single digits tomorrow. as some arctic air is pouring down. blizzard warnings up for them. all thanks to this big storm out in the west. when you have a big storm in the west, usually pushes the jet stream up in the east and that's whoo we're going to be dealing with. some snow not mountains of -- in the mountains of california and nevada nevada and northern rocky -- nevada and northern rockies. but in the east the clear skies here in the ohio and tennessee valley. that's going to be moving toward us for the weekend. although a little warm front tonight into tomorrow may produce a few clouds. here we're at 6:00 and all quiet. watch overnight and clouds here and even the isolated shower in southwestern pennsylvania. will produce some clouds across our northern suburb especially through the morning hour
